Cameron MacPherson from Computational Bioscience Research Center, was the first Ph.D. Student to defend his thesis to a Committee made up of Dean Prof Pierre Magistretti, Center Directors Prof Nina Fedoroff and Prof Vladimir Bajic and external examiner Prof Nam-Hai Chua of the Rockefeller University.

In a recent study conducted in KAUST, researchers Essack M, Radovanovic A & Bajic V. identified through text-mining and other computational methods a drug that has a potential use in sickle cell disease treatment. Date Filed: September 13, 2012.

Arnab Pain has been elected as a Fellow (FSB) of the Society of Biology on the 19th September 2011. His Fellowship will officially begin on the 1st October 2011.

Vladimir Bajic became a member of the Editorial Board of Briefings in Bioinformatics. Briefings in Bioinformatics is ranked 4th in biochemical research methods with a 7.329 impact factor.

In a recent study conducted in KAUST, researchers Mandeep Kaur and Vladimir Bajic identified a combination of three proteins that have potential for use in detection of epithelial ovarian cancer. The team consider this to be a useful contribution to early diagnosis of this deadly desease.
